| Hay Donations required- Gerogery NSW Bushfires [message #1604527] |

Dear All
If you are able to assist please PM me.
A couple of us from around the W'sea & Kinglake areas are plannng to take some floats up to the horse owners at Gerogery in NSW to assist those owners that have lost grazing pastures and hay in their sheds from the fires . We can take about 80 square bales in the floats and so far I have about 30 bales.
The girls who live up there have indicated that many of the owners (about 16 or so affected horses that they know of) will require assistance over the Xmas and New Years period.
Hope you can help
Thanks
Celia

would cash donations be better than carting hay all that way?? as fuel costs are high, if there is hay available to purchase up there it might be better for cash donations??? just a thought, what do you think?

I pm'd mondavi on the other thread itsy asking the same thing because I don't have hay to donate but can make a donation to put towards whatever hay/feed is needed

If its anything like what happened with us- cash donations came through via the RSPCA with grants for feed at a nominated feedstore and eventually Project Hope doing the same. TREW donated hay upfront. The local HRCAV and Pony clubs were given grants by their respective organisations but was utilised more for club purposes than individual club owners.
Only thing I can suggest that doesn't involve an organisation is setting up an account with a local feed place in Gerogery if they allow it and each recipient can purchase feed on the account at a set $ amount, say $50.00 per property. Of course this is all dependent upon how much goes into the account. I would not have a clue as to who is the most desperate and as to who lost what. Clumper63 and Zilla would have a better idea. But who knows as C63 said the council might be setting up an account and who knows what an affected person might be eligible for.
Or speaking with Jamie at Plenty Valley stockfeeds in W'sea paying for some hay there over the phone and we will pick it up/or get Jamiee to deliver it to Mondavis and we will include it with our other bales to take up with the truck.
I'm a bit reluctant to handle money myself. If people don't believe it didn't go to where it should have gone, I just don't want the blame.
If you have any suggestions yourselves please let me know. It's a complex one.
