Oooh I hope Vali colours out like that. Smile

We taught Vali to tie up on the weekend. It's the thing that I hate most but unfortunately it's something that has to be done. Thankfully my other half has the work of the babies so he was the one to do it.
I'm pleased to say that he is just so clever - pulled back once then came off the pressure, second pull and he jumped forward and seemed to get the idea straight away. After that he stood there for about 10 minutes and fell asleep. Laughing

After working with QH babies and now taking on Vali he's just so clever in a completely different way. He wants to be taught and is so willing to understand what we are asking. Hopefully everything else continues to go as smoothly. Very Happy

He is 7 so I'm hoping his dapples last a long while! The little profile pic shows him at 4 so he stayed black for a good while

Everyone's Andalusians are so nice! I just bought a spanish warmblood - i wasn't specifically looking for an Andalusian x but just warmblood and WB x in general but i thought she was sweet and hear Andalusians have good temperments plus are usually good doers which is always handy! She will stay black but that's fine with me- its my favourite colour! Does anyone else have Spanish warmbloods or babies by Galero XIV (imp)?

Hi and welcome to the Andy world!

I have a few Spanish Warmbloods but not by Galero. They are by my chestnut boy Mas-Martillo (imp Spain). Here's a few photos of them. They are all out of Holsteiner mares.

After such a looonng wait my boy and I attended our first ridden rally yesterday!!

He was sooo well behaved and I was super proud of him Very Happy
Another horse did a big shy and lept towards him he got a fright but was more confused than anything else and got over it quickly - I think it took me longer to calm down than him Laughing

He his still super unfit and we didnt get through the whole lesson but he did everything I asked and I just couldnt be happier with how he handled the day Cool

Certainly has been quiet in here lately. Hope everyone has a safe easter holiday weekend coing up.
Just thought I would add some updates on my two, today I decided to do some long reining with the boy. He hasn't done it since being broken in about 5 years ago and I have never done it so figured I have learn one way or the another. After an initial panic attack at the fact that the rope was touching his butt he got over it and did some fantastic work. understood everything I asked and was working happily without any resistance, we even got small figure of eights, u-turns, backing up, leg yielding and negotiating a very narrow gateway. Such a good boy
The girl is back here with me while Ben goes over to Europe and the hard decision has been made to put her on the market, she is also training solid elementary with half pass established, all without any hassels. Hayley Beresford loved her at the clinic and asked if she was for sale, said she owuld make it ot the top under the right rider. Nice to know that she has the potential to go somewhere from someone who is unbiased. lol. So if any one is intersted then PM me. word of warning though she isn't going for a small price

And what is an update without some pics, so here is some of the boy from today.

Great photos of the long reining. That's something I've always wanted to do but was never really sure how exactly to do it. Smile

Valiente has gone from a 5' rug to a 5'3 and that makes me super happy!

Here are some photos of him from two or three weeks ago. He has filled out a bit since and is loving being in with his paddock mate. Smile

New to this forum but interested in other adventures with Andalusians or crosses. Only had my girl (TB x Andy) for a few months but she's really lovely although quite a funny horse. She decided that she would walk through the water (with me leading in gum boots) but stopped in the middle, started to Spanish walk on the spot till the two of us were soaked through! I'm sure that she smiled!

hi all! Still in Spain but onto plane tomorrow and home early Tuesday. Saw some lovely horses down at Yeguada Aimaran, including a boy who will be on his way to Australia very soon! Not with me sadly, but with some people up in Queensland. Fell in love with a young grey stallion just being started under saddle and am now trying to work out how I can get him here lol!

Met Kefren at Los Arcos - he´s even nicer in the flesh. The property itself is absolutely stunning too. Kefren is for sale at a very good price for a Calificado stallion, so I´m thinking about him a lot too... I need to find a couple of people to form a syndicate with me Very Happy . He´d do wonders for our breed here.

Have heaps of photos and I´ll upload some later next week when I´ve recovered a bit from the flight. Sadly didn´t buy much in the way of saddlery - just a couple of red and yellow halters, and a training seretta.

El Rocio was fabulous with lots of people riding around the town on their horses, and saddleries on every corner. Worth a visit if anyone is heading to Spain.

Great to see all the new photos here! Valiente is growing up so fast. Hope everyone is well!

Do Andalusians grow a nice thick winter coat? I am not a fan of rugs and would prefer my mare to "winter it out" in "cold" Melbourne!

Yes they do. In Spain they are very rarely rugged, even in areas where it snows.

Nod mine certainly does Dead and an impressive beard to boot. He wintered out last winter in the Yarra Valley, no feed/rugs etc, and maintained his condition just fine.

However, being in work and stabled this year,he is fully clipped and it is divine Smile

Argh! Don't say they grow thick winter coats... I refuse to believe it. haha

I've always had horses that seem to grow a super thick coat before all the other horses and are the last to shed it- And take forever to shed it as well! My husband on the other hand always seems to have the opposite and all his horses have summer coats through winter. Sad

Loving all the photos!

Well Valiente has hit an "awkward" stage in his growth and looks really funny. He looks like he has a full size head and body but little miniature legs. hehe He's bum high again so he'll shoot up again soon no doubt.

Our QH x went through the same stage and then all of a sudden got really leggy and shot up.. was weird to see. hehe

Karashalla, wait till he hits two... they look dreadful then!

None of mine are rugged and all grow very thick hairy coats. I think I'll rug Valeroso this winter as we hope to sell him towards the end of the year.

If anyone is interested, I've decided to sell our mare, Anchorbar Forcilla. Born 2002, she was broken in at four and worked lightly before being put in foal. She has had two foals (Valeroso and Ben (Ben was sold at 2 weeks of age)) and is in foal to HISPANO and due November. She foundered about twelve months ago and while she is now completely sound, she will require ongoing management to make sure she does not get too fat. Registered AHAA and PRE Mundial. Very quiet and easy to do anything with. $5500.

Congratulations to the guys with the Dressage! Beautiful horses for sure!

That donkey is really cute. When we were up camping at the start of the year at Mansfield, they had mules and although some of the weirdest creatures I've seen... they were so sure footed and the guy never had a problem with taking them out each day.
The noise they made was a tad scarey though! Laughing

So I have a question... What is an Australian Andalusian? I thought I always knew but then when my partner asked me to explain it I realised I really didn't know. Embarassed
