My vote would be for an Irish Draught, but I'm biased. Smile

Not Irish Draught, but I do own three Irish Sport Horses.

there is good and bad in every breed, and if people are breeding CC to get a quiet horse, it depends on the nature of the mare and the stallion and also how they are raised.
My mum had pure Clydies, sensible big buggers they were, Dad had a couple, were hot as hell, i never went near them.
Mum now has a Clydie X'd with a SB, broken to harness, reckon she would make a good hunter, god she can move.

keep your options open, look around, ride some, watch some at comps/rallies.

Good luck Very Happy

Hi there

I am another fan of the Friesian x's.

I have one of my own but was also the NSW rep for the AFWHS for two years so I got to meet plenty Smile most have great temps and are well made.

My little man is the best horse I have ever owned and I have done everything with him myself (except the first few rides as I wanted everything to be perfect) and he has been nothing but a pleasure. Take him anywhere and do anything, if I tell him he is going to be ok, he believes me Smile

And just some pics cause I can Smile

First big dressage test in April at 3 and a half years old Smile

Warmbloods aren't really that quiet. Well, under the age of ten they're not. Horses with very big movement take quite a lot of getting useful and in my experience warmbloods are generally stubborn (less reactive) in their opinions. Not that I don't love my warmbloods, but that's what I've concluded.

I loooooooooove percherons. What about irish draughts or irish sport horses? They are nice athletic horses?

Yeah I've heard the same on WBs. Not something I'd really really consider but it'd always an option Smile Love IDs & ISHs! Don't see many come up but... will have to keep my eyes peeled and look out for some good studs.

I completely agree Tiglet and mine was the same - but her pain in the ass ways took over the halo Rolls Eyes so she found a lovely new home who she's great with Smile

Shocked Shocked

She's amazing Hacker!

I have two warmblood mares and a warmblood yearling.....both mares are super quiet, I've had Chels since she was 8 and have known Sanita since she was a breaker.....my yearling is also proving to be placid.....and in no way could Chels ever be described as stubborn....Sanita a little, but not at all pig headed with it.....maybe I'm just lucky Smile

Go the PURE bred Clydesdale! Smile
I ride a pure bred mare and she is lovely. I have not come across anything she cant do yet. I have owned Clydie crosses for years but since having a pure, she has won me over. Like any horse personalities will vary, horse to horse, but my girl is amazing. She has a very good "GO" button... is established in all paces and no laziness what so ever.
My girls full sister is eventing and doing quite well.

Yep, Ollie has an outstanding temperament. He is proving to be a great ambassador for the Irish Draught. Dryd also has a mare which is 50% Irish Draught and is also has a super temperament.

If I hadn't already brought myself a Cleveland bay I certainly would also be considering Irish Draught.

Cleveland Bays are another breed worth considering. They are another consistently sensible and versatile breed. My 3 raising 4 is proving to be the most sensible and obliging horse I have ever come across.

The important thing with these heavier breeds is to ensure that you allow them to mature before pushing them along work wise.

Gorgeous horses everyone.
I just want to add that I love the fact that the Belgian Draughts in the photos shown do not appear to have BLINKERS on them, so they can see what's going on around them. I come from a harness family and blinkers seems to be the go, especially wih anything in harness here in OZ.

I don't use block blinkers never have, only use Dolly's, know several competitors in nsw who go no blinkers. I did drive once without blinkers as I forgot the bridle and found a normal one it and it was too far to go back and get it.

Watch this space later I'll put some pics up, and if I can work it a u tube.
