I wanted to vote for 2... Best fitting for me are Axiom & Weatherbeeta! Waterproof wise I'd go Axiom and Saxon but Saxon you need 1 or 2 sizes bigger.
R.I.P My beautiful BJ
I will miss & love you every single day!

I love O'deas rugs...they fit really well, as do Skye Park's.
Saxons are crap and for midgets!

I LOVE skye park, great fit, stay waterproof, great service off Di too I have an unlined that has been worn and worn since I purchased it 12 months ago, never missed a beat, never slipped, never leaked, added bonus it has been great over spring/ autumn for those raining but not-cold and iffy days as it breathes so well!!
Now it is winter I have a lined set - yet to be put to the test! worn two nights but they have been cold yet not raining etc.
I also love the first comfort range, I only tried these as I LOVED axiom, up until 2 years ago, I bought about 5 rugs from 1200-1680D (or whatever) and all leaked like sieves. They fitted well- generous fit, and the old ones I loved, I still have a few 3+ year old ones, couple I saved are waterproof, others are still good under-doonas, they stayed waterproof for about 2 seasons, now they leak at the smell of rain, not impressed! so I ventured out and tried the first comfort.
The aren't as generous in fit and a little tight around the shoulders - I have all big QH, Appy, ASH, percheronX type shoulders though! but for the price these rugs are so warm and they stay waterproof! I have a now 3y/o unlined that is still waterproof!! and beside loosing the neck part to the yearling it is going strong, so I voted for these rugs
the cotton/ satin lined question doesn't phase me, I use cottons under-neath, they are much easier to wash every few days and I would never put a big rug like that straight on - you surely don't wear the same PJs every night all winter without washing?? then neither should they IMO... so I don't have a preference, and as long as the rug is otherwise good wouldn't turn me off! I like the fact first comfort gives you a choice now though
I would NOT do polar fleece though like Yimar I think? had a few years back, far too hot/non-breathing, staticy and crap would stick to it, friend had one and hated it!
Rambo/ Bucas might be good rugs, never tried, but I have barb-wire fences in my main paddocks and a yearling, whilst the fences have never injured a horse, they have injured rugs! and I would probably cry if a $500 rug got torn to shreds on the fences, my show horse and his skye-park range stay in the 'nice' paddock away from the barb fences, so I will give him nice things, but the other ferals I am sorry but I look for cheap quality rugs and would not pay over $100-120 a combo for them for winter.. as a result they tend to get a new one every year, but yeah I rather for them something cheap that will do the job but can be cheaply replaced

for my welshies i am in love with the first comfort rugs, they seem to have the neckline just right and there is no rubbing or slipping going on at all. they are also very tough (i only have the 1200D rainsheets) and they have stayed very waterproof even through the recent flooding rains in the north east.
i do dislike the fittings on weatherbeeta rugs, i prefer a nice snap (like a leadrope one).
i dont use cotton sheets unless they are washed and ready for a show but i did find that the eurohunter ones i have (the light ones with the tan binding and ripstop) have an absolutley horrid neckline and are about 2 sizes too big.
i love the necklines on diamond creek rugs and skye park rugs but not many other canvas's get my vote of approval.

GREAT feedback..
Im finding each rug I have tried has 'an issue'
So im trying to work out what the 'perfect rug could be.
Keeping in mind personal preferences aside, but being 'perfect' because they fit well, dont fall apart due to CRAP thread and clips, stay waterproof and the lining is a pet thing of my own.
The ONLY canvas I have EVER liked is the SkyPark but too heavy when wet and I have had rub problems seen (racing stables, so ive seen Thousands of rugs lol)
My ponies, I struggle to get the right neck size, but must say iv found the BEST fitting welsh b cotton rug!!! Capriol Rose cotton is LOVELY fit and buckles and stitching up to my expectations too , and im impressed with the woolens too!
buy SkyPark sheets for the bigger horses!
Anyway again thankyou and im sorry I'v left some brands out, it makes the study slightly VOID! Bt still answers many of my 'hidden' questions

Yes I am looking into it missFranki
HUGE SORRY to the brands I Didnt mention it's more because I dint know those rugs well but now il suss out their good points too so Thankyou
It's hard to make everyone happy when it comes to a rug as different sized horses is just one thing
Thankyou for tafeta info!!!!
I've tried all these and have had many horses from Shetland through to 6'9 TB's and Wb', Arabs,qh's, welshies, etc so plenty of sizes
My comments on these rugs..
SkyPark sheets are good (don't like the no gussets though)
First comfort and yimar (cheap buckles and sewing on leg straps)
Not finding much benefit ATALL in the 2000D
I like the chest attach with the D used and adjustments etc. And axiom only have buckles. Same with neck part I prefer WB fastenings but WB not my fav!
Fit goes to axiom synthetic
Fit for Capriol sheets (most I try fit is terrible!! Far too big in chest!! I get heaps darted for the welsh b's and tb cop a smaller size- sick of this!!!)
Waterproof.... Axiom (had the odd one yrs ago that was terrible) but it's easier to say the ones that ARNT waterproof (FC, Y,Sax)
I like cotton lining!! Prevents slip. And satin gets cold lol
Love the spring rugs with fleece lining for a hot horse!
Buckles I'm keen on solid nickle snap clip

so which way are you intending to go .... add to the growing asian economy by importing rugs and therefore, create more unemployment and reduced growth in the Australian economy ?
I'm as guilty as the next person for buying cheap arse rugs which has contributed to the asian economic explosion but look at our own economy now
scarey times ahead for Orstrayla.

Out of my way, I am in the midst of a hoo haa monologue |
|
|
i have sold, short backed boy who is all legs!
he is gernally a 6'0 in legnth and a 5'9 in the chest
this isnt an issue with cottons as i get custom skye park ones, but for winter it's insane!
i have all my canvas' by yarrambat horseware and they are a standard 5'9 and fit like a dream, tough, durable, and well priced!!
for sythetic i have tried the usual, but found the eurohunter is by far the best fit for my boy! a standard 5'9 fits lovely and i just pop a woolen or shower canvas undernearth for warmth!
horses are cool.
