They're both pretty good - actually the first one in slow motion is amazing!

This is an oldie but a goodie - Karen O'Connor back in the late 80's at Badminton apparently. I can watch this over and over...

I know ! It was just like yep, right, ok, good, youre on? sick were off.

Correct me if im wrong but wouldnt a fall of rider at that point in time not resulted in elimination, or was it because it was caused by the jump?

Back in 2006 or 7 or whatever I fell between jumps and just hopped on and kept going (massive penelties included of course).

So surely in the 80s a fall would be allowed? Although not the best reference I do recall it happening in international velvet lol.

Its my party and I'll hoo haa if I want to

A fall of rider used to be penalised, 20-30 points or so, maybe more. Second fall was more heavily penalised, and third fall resulted in elimination.

Yes, but if thats the case why didnt she just get off and climb back on? Surely the time penalties accrued would be about equal to falling?

You're right - we weren't being eliminated for a fall back then. If you fell out in the open spaces there was no penalty (except the time it took to catch horse and remount). However, a fall within the "penalty zone" was 60 points. In this instance (3 strides out from the fence) that's what she would have copped so well worth hanging on for dear life!
