Bob Myers - founding president of the Native Grasses Resources Group in South Australia - in an interview with Native Seeds discussing the use of native Australian grasses for fire prevention.
Every summer in Australia, bushfires are a very serious matter that can claim lives, land and property. Bob explains how we can drop fuel load for fires by a staggering amount simply by choosing to plant some of our amazing, low bio-mass Australian native grasses.
Many introduced grass species have approximately 26 TONNES of fuel load per hectare! Where as many of the native varieties have as little as 2 tonnes per hectare. That's a MASSIVE difference! And another reason why going with 100% Aussie grasses is a great idea.
Here is the video on youtube if anyone is interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt_SHIURiYs
Now I have to admit, the recording quality wasn't the greatest and Bob isn't super exciting to listen to but the info is great and it's only a 3 min video.
