I got upset when Grotorque not only reduced their bag size but increased the price aswell so we got a double wammy - however I did/do really like their product.

So while whinging at produce a trainer came in and suggested I try James and sons. We started using the HiPro as we have horses of all ages and I found it really good. Much cheaper than the grotorque and still a feed where you can actually see the ingredients ie. not pellets.

We never had a problem with the horses getting too hot but I can see it could be a problem as very high in grain - ofcourse depending on the one you get.

Also we had huge probs getting it into the Yarra Valley without having to order bulk bags and I didn't want them as you end up with a whole ton of feed open at once. They reckon the distributor out this way didn't deal with them at the time, but this could have changed?

But basically quite happy with them - just can't get all the way over to Sunshine at the moment to get them.

I use it on my horse, he is a 5yr old WB, he has the conditioner and the high performance pellets.. but I am not feeding anywhere near the recommended amounts.
I just feed it with oaten chaff and he gets grass hay..
I think I weighed my scoop of the conditioner and it was 1.25kg and he gets half a scoop at most morning and night. the pellets I think weigh a bit more in my scoop but he really only gets the equivelant of 2 large handfuls of the pellets.
I did also try a bag of the high performance mix, which he loved, but he is a forward horse anyway so I decided not to continue with it.. I would only give a handful of it when he had a comp or something.
I am finding it really cheap and he loves it.. I just adjust the amounts as I see fit.. the pellets seem to help if you want to add a bit of weight to them, but again I have found I only need to feed small amounts..
My vet buys it in bulk and I just buy the bags from them..
It is on Feed XL as well as a friend did a analysis for me and was amazed that it all balanced really well..

I liked their feed but got unlucky enough to end up with a couple of bags of contaminated(material item that shouldnt have been in it) and havent used it since.

Having a few breeds we have varying requirements and I used to have a lot of different feeds to suit ...divided the brats into groups of who needs what.
Gives me the pip and I have settled on a small number of mixed feeds that I love.

The only pellets we use are(hygain) prodigy(only occassionally)...very carefully as you can ruin youngsters if you dont watch them...have also found them good for some of the ponies as a bit of 'extra'.

Mixed feeds we use are (hygain)show torque and (mitavite)athlete plus.
The reason we use these 2 mixed feeds is my fusspots cant pick out the things they dont like in the athlete plus

Mine are gallopers & do really well on the High E but the daily amount varies from 2kgs to 4 or 5, depending on horse so I reckon those whose horses heat up on it need look no further than energy intake vs. energy expended, in other words too much feed on too little work . Less than $1/kg is very reasonable imo, for the quality of product
